2. SCoPE Seminar: Building a Virtual Museum
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
October 1-21, 2008

We have a big project starting up in October! This 3-week seminar will launch the design phase of the Living History of Educational Technology project, a freely accessible and collaborative museum of educational technology. Join us in October to begin a conversation about our history, to gather historical accounts of the field's development, key contributors, and important successes and failures, and to shape this living and growing resource together. We extend a special welcome to the graduate students enrolled in University of Saskatchewan's Educational Communication and Technology program who are considering innovative ways to populate the museum with content.

* SCoPE Seminar: Developing a Professional Development Collaboratory
August 18-31, 2008
Facilitator: Nancy Randall
What better way to inform the design of online PD Collaboratory than to engage educators from around the world in a conversation about what we would like to see in such a service. During this 2-week discussion we gathered information about exemplary online professional development websites, what makes them effective, why we seek out PD outside of our own institutions, and what factors encourage us to contribute to online service. The wiki reflects our main questions, findings, and design ideas. Nancy Randall's design team is now busy creating a beta website and will invite further feedback.

* SCoPE Seminar: R2D2 - Empowering Online Learning
July 21 - August 3, 2008
Facilitators: Curt Bonk and Ke Zhang
There was something for everyone in the summer book discussion: "Empowering Online Learning: 100+ Activities for Reading, Reflecting, Displaying, and Doing" by Curt Bonk and Ke Zhang. The SCoPE seminar marked the launch of this book and Jossey-Bass is offering SCoPE members a 20% discount by using this code: HAE20. Several chapters are available for download, and evaluation copies may be requested if you are an instructor at an accredited institution.

* Shaping Our Future Online Conference
We are busy preparing a outcome document representing our work together in this 3-week conference. It will be available soon!

* Volume 2, Issue 1 of Transformative Dialogues published by Kwantlen Polytechnic University is now available. The theme is Scholarly Activity in Relation to Teaching and Learning. The submission deadline for the next issue, "My Classroom: Reflections on Practise and Practices Personal SoTL about real learning by current educators", is September 30, 2008

* The theme for this month's Active Learning Carnival is "Hope for the Future".

* SCoPE member Parker Owens will be co-presenting Web 2.0: Learn. Connect. Share in the Wimba Distinguished Lecture Series September 23th.
